TASMANIAN LIGHT LINE CHAMPIONSHIPS Port Arthur 15 and 15 Feb 2009

Posted By: Tim Duncombe  on February 23rd, 2009

On the 14th and 15th of February Northern Club boats Pipedream and Diesel ’n Coke made the long haul to Port Arthur to fish the 2nd Annual Tas Light Line championships conducted by The Southern Gamefishing Club. Saturday saw near perfect conditions with a light 5-10 knots of breeze and bright skies and the albacore thick in most areas, with most fish only coming in at around the 3-4 kilo mark the tagging action was thick and furious with several boats tagging around the 50 mark for the day, Pipedream tagged well and was up near the results for Day 1 and the biggest fish for the competition was landed this day by one of the Southern members and was a great effort to see a pending Tas Record 19.4Kg fish landed on 4kg line. Sunday saw the wind pick up and overcast conditions more suited to a good days tuna fishing and the smaller albacore still thick, tagging continued to be popular and at the end of the day the tag and release tally for some boats for the weekend was around the 100 mark. There were several bigger alby’s landed on the second day but none able to knock off the best catch from day 1. Congratulations go to Bradley Hay on Pipedream for taking out the Junior Tag and Release for the comp. All in all an excellent competition for those wishing to take on the challenge of fishing 6kg line class or lower with some of the most spectacular fishing scenery in the Country around the Tasman Peninsula.
