The albacore are about already on the shelf line at St Helens!
Small albacore about the 2 kg were caught by club members on Reel Screamer during the Christmas break. This could be the start of a top season with water temperatures up around the 17.4 before the New Year got under way. The mako sharks have been a bit quite with quite a few people punching the pot for no luck.
The club newsletter is out with the dates for events for the up coming season. The season kicks of with the Mountain Designs Ulverstone Early Bird Competition on the 13th of January. This event was a huge success last year with over 70 boats, so get your entries in early to the club secretary or call in and see Bob at Mountain Designs Devonport. This event attracted lots of new members to our club last year and we hope to see more new faces at the ramp. Don’t forget there are prizes for other fish as well as sharks.
The clubs sponsorship list has grown this season to a new record and so the prizes that are up for grabs this season are first class. The Haines Suzuki - Coastal Marine Easter Competition has a list of prizes that will make it one of the top events in the Tasmanian fishing calendar for 07. A new 15HP 4 stroke Suzuki would look good on the back of any of our rigs. Epping Forest Road House has jumped in and put some pretty serious money towards club prizes this season. Don’t forget to call in and grab something as you go past to break up that long hot drive to your favourite spot. Wattyl paints have chipped in with some paint to give us something to put a smile on the other half’s face during the off season. Our sponsors are the most important ingredient in the make up of our club, so call in and say hello to them and tell them you’re a member of the GFCNT they might just extend their generosity a little further.
The minimum weights and line class rules have change this year, so read them carefully in the newsletter and if you have any questions just give me a call. Please note our club mailbox address has changed to P O Box 221 Exeter 7275. Club scales are still in the same spots as last year and we are just about to pick up two new sets of digital scales to help with the new line class rules.
Good luck to all members.
