The fishing season is about to start again with the opening of the Cray season on the long weekend in November. I suppose we will be hit with the normal 30 knot winds and large swells, so I hope you guys have spent long hours over winter looking after maintenance on your boat and safety gear.
Our captain for the past few years Stan Hardman has stepped aside and taken over as Vice President but left behind a strong team for me to head as the club goes forward in 06/07. On behalf of the committee and myself I would like to thank Stan for his leadership during his term as President. Sheryl and Ken Turner were made life members at the club dinner and Sheryl will continue as club Secretary/ Treasurer for 06/07. Most of our club sponsors are back on board for this season and we all thank them for their support. A list of our sponsors is in the club booklet and on our internet site. The club web site is being up dated by David Smith again this year, so don't forget to send those photos in. Thanks again David for your support. The dinner was a great success this year with John Farrell heading a team who put together a very professional night.
This years GFAA AGM was held in Cairns in September and Tassie was represented by a crew of 6, who I think represented our clubs well. At the presentation dinner Tassie was awarded a number of trophies for various categories. The most important winner for our club was Andrew Mosley winning the State National Junior Tournament tag and release and capture section. I accepted the awards on behalf of Andrew and these were presented to him at our October meeting. The National Junior Tournament is a chance for the juniors to show what they are made of and it only needs Mum & Dad to fill out a few forms to enter them in the competition. These forms are available on the GFAA web site or just contact me and I will send them out.
Our club starts of the season with our Mountain Designs Shark competition at Ulverstone in January. This is shaping up to be a big day with lots of top prizes available to those who like to have their pride and joy chewed by Mako sharks. There will be prizes for people who catch other fish and also a tag and release prize on offer.
The tags will be available this year again by just giving me a phone call and I will send the out ASAP. Do not leave it to the day before the competition to ask for tags, get yourself organised and sorted out in early January. Don't forget these tags cost money so look after them, keep them clean and send them back to Sheryl or myself as soon as you have filled them in.
Our club booklet will be out shortly with the fishing calendar for 06/07. The committee hope you can attend as many of these events as possible and don’t forget to patronise our club sponsors. Don't hesitate to give me a call if you need any information regarding club activities for this season.
All Aboard for 06 / 07
